Canopy Space

Canopy Space is the Alt-Folk Duo of Rick Magrath and Annie Gallie. Passionate and energetic, performing original songs & covers with tight harmonies, Canopy Space plays local West Michigan venues. Both Annie and Rick are Pentwater High School teachers and found themselves playing music after school to simply unwind in what they called, "the long commute." Inspired by bands such as The Indigo Girls, The Civil Wars, and The Cranberries, they soon became a bit more serious in their musical endeavors and began composing and writing, focusing on lyrics and harmonies.

Time and Time and Time (2026) is our latest release. Recorded at Hilltop House, and mixed and produced by Dick Bourgault, the album explores time, loss, love, introspection, and human connections. Swimming (2023) was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Andy Henley @ Griswold studio. The album features Andy Henley on Guitar, Bass, and Keyboard. Reach (2020) was released during Covid-19. Recorded in Rick's Hilltop House and mixed and mastered by Dick Bourgault, it was a challenging project to record, but it also offers an authentic sound for the duo. Color My Own World (2016) was recorded, mixed, and produced by Dick Bourgault in Cinderella Studio in Ludington, Michigan. Dick also contributed keyboards and percussion. Cruel Art was released in 2015 (recorded and produced by Dan Nugent in The Spare Room in Pentwater) and recorded in a chilly storefront room in two days during Spring Break, giving the album a live feel. 

Canopy Space thinks it's important to support our young artists and have asked local artists to do the cover work for the albums-- Cruel Art: Riley Barnett; Color My Own World: Meagan Grondsma; and Reach: Hannah Gebhart (gebhartist.com). Rick took the photo for Swimming. The cover art for Time and Time and Time was produced by Belle Powers.

Rick also has released two solo albums, Disconnected, with local multi-instrumentalist Andy Henley, and most recently Simple Gifts: Songs from New Hope, a reworking of new melodies for old hymns produced by Dick Bourgault.  We can be found on most of your favorite streaming sites.
